Illuminating the Amenities of this Community’s Bark Park

Union Park is a Hillwood Community located in the North Texas town of Savannah. Last year, our team was asked to add lighting to Union Park with the goal of extending and encouraging use of the park during evening operating hours. For this project we provided the lighting for the development’s amenity center, pool area and community parks to add visual interest and security to the park.

Continually seeking to improve the community experience, Hillwood strives to create amenities for their master-planned communities that go beyond expectations. In addition to the existing park that contains a large playground, pool, and several picnic areas, Hillwood wanted to expand the amenities of Union Park by adding a dog park for residents of the community to enjoy the outdoors with their furry friends.

The dog park area, or “Bark Park,” is a space where residents of the Hillwood community can take their dogs and let them go off-leash to exercise and play in a controlled, safe environment. The Bark Park contains many amenities that make both dogs and their owners more comfortable to relax and socialize with other community members.

Our goal was to add lighting to the dog park and covered arbor that would illuminate all the Bark Park amenities so dog owners could make use of the park during nighttime hours.

We used Alliance LV LED downlights in the arbor to accentuate its features. The arbor contains a water spicket and bowl where owners can let their dogs get a drink, a gumball machine-styled tennis ball dispenser for owners to purchase a tennis ball for a quick game of fetch, and a washing area for pups to be cleaned up before heading home.

Additionally, the Bark Park includes covered trash cans to dispose of animal waste and several picnic tables and benches for owners to sit and socialize while their dogs run free in the two-acre park. The floodlights and downlights we installed work to highlight these elements for a more enjoyable experience for the owners.

Finally, the area contains a block-lettered blue and green sign to distinguish the Bark Park from other park amenities. Our team installed LED tape lights under the sign and flood uplights in the grass to illuminate the sign and make it easier for residents and visitors to easily locate this special area for their four-legged family members.
